Rosemary essential oil is a great ingredient for hair care products because it's rich in antioxidants and anti-fungal properties. It has been ALWAYS been part of our Scalp Rescue range - since 2005! It can help keep your scalp clean, reduce dandruff, and stimulate happy hair follicles. It's often used to treat dandruff and split ends. Rosemary contains a chemical called rosmarinic acid that can promote blood circulation in the scalp. It also smells amazing!
Rosemary is native to the Mediterranean region but has naturalized throughout most of Europe and North America—you'll find it growing wild anywhere there are rocky hillsides or dry woodlands with little access to water sources (which makes sense considering how tough this plant is).
Most rosemary essential oil is distilled from the leaves of the plant that have been dried in a process similar to making tea. It's then distilled again to remove the essential oil from the leaves.
Rosemary essential oil has been used for centuries for its medicinal properties. In ancient Rome, it was used as an antidote for snake venom, scorpion stings, and poisoning by hemlock (a poisonous plant). In medieval times, it was used to help treat gouty arthritis and rheumatism as well as sore throat symptoms—and there are even reports that it can help fight off colds when they're at their worst!
