How To Use Hyaluronic Acid The Right Way & Why You Might Not Be Seeing Results

We shared a post recently, talking all about alpha-lipoic acid, and which of our products contain that superstar ingredient.

Now, we want to share another ingredient we have in these beautiful products, considered King in the world of skincare when it comes to keeping your skin plump and hydrated.

We want to tell you more about hyaluronic acid! You may have heard of this one, it truly is a trending ingredient in the skincare world so it’s no surprise if you have.

It is a natural humectant, meaning it draws water from the environment and ensures your pores drink it up! In fact, HA can hold up to a whopping 1000 times its own weight in water!

The problem is that some people have said it seems to have the opposite effect, drying their skin out, instead of plumping it up with moisture the way they had expected.

The truth is, that hyaluronic acid can have this effect if any of the following two factors are true for you.

The air is too dry

We mentioned that hyaluronic acid draws water from the environment, and then it puts this water right back into your skin.

But what if there is no moisture in the air?

If the air is dry due to your environment, such as cold, bitter climates with no humidity, then hyaluronic acid is going to have the opposite effect; pulling water from your skin instead of the air.

Naturally, this is not what you want, your skin is going to be at risk of becoming dry and dehydrated, which then increases your risk of lines and wrinkles.

Your best defense against this is to put that moisture right back into the air! A humidifier is a great way to help with this, some even allow you to add essential oils so you will enjoy the added aromatherapy benefits.

Of course, you can’t take your humidifier outside, but that’s where our next tip comes in!

You are applying it incorrectly

If you want to ensure optimal absorption of your hyaluronic acid, you need to apply it to damp skin.

You want your skin to have moisture for the hyaluronic acid to pull from, right?

A spritz of toner right before you apply your products with hyaluronic acid, and then following up with a moisturizer is key.

Another great tip, especially if you’re outside in dry air, is to carry our toner in your bag and give your skin a spritz throughout the day to ensure your skin is hydrated all day long!
