1. Choose your starting point
Use on dry hair for more visible separation and piecey definition. Apply to towel-dried hair when you want softer definition, smoother control and a more blended finish.
2. Start with a very small amount
Begin with about a pea-sized amount or less and add more only where needed. Fine or very short hair may need only a fingertip amount. Because Texture Paste is richer than Matte Paste, using too much can make fine hair feel heavy.
3. Warm thoroughly between your hands
Rub the paste between your palms and fingertips until it is spread into a thin, even layer. This helps distribute the product evenly through the hair rather than depositing too much in one spot.
4. Apply to the areas that need definition
Begin with the mid-lengths and ends for piecey separation and definition, then distribute any remaining product through the rest of the style. If you want a little grip near the roots or crown, use only the residue left on your fingertips rather than applying a large amount directly at the scalp.
5. Shape the finish
Pinch or twist individual sections for piecey texture, scrunch through waves or curls for definition, or use your fingertips to separate layers and smooth flyaways. Let the style settle before deciding whether you need more.
6. Refresh with water
To restyle later, lightly dampen your fingertips and reshape the hair. The water-reactivatable formula lets you restore separation or smooth individual sections before deciding whether any additional product is necessary.
7. Customise your finish if needed
Scalp Rescue stylers can be combined in small amounts when you want to adjust the balance of hold, texture, sheen and flexibility.
- Matte Paste — for a lighter, drier, lower-shine finish
- Styling Gel — for lighter gel control and flexibility
- Sculpting Gel — when stronger hold is the priority
Very fine hair? If your main goal is body and texture with less emollient weight, Scalp Rescue Matte Paste may be the better starting point.
